What gets counted
Words are counted by splitting your text on whitespace, so hyphenated terms like “well-known” count as one word and a number like “3.14” also counts as one. Characters are counted twice over: once including every space and line break, and once with all whitespace removed.
Sentence counting looks for periods, question marks, and exclamation points that close a clause. That is a simple rule rather than a grammar parser, so an abbreviation such as “Dr.” or “e.g.” will be read as the end of a sentence. Line counting follows the line breaks you actually typed, not the visual wrapping of the box.
